Your rTMS Treatment: What to Expect
FAQ
What does rTMS feel like?
Most people describe a light tapping at the scalp, where the coil rests. It can feel unfamiliar for a minute or two, but it is not painful, and almost everyone settles quickly. You stay awake and comfortable throughout, free to read, talk or simply rest.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on what you are being treated for. Restore courses usually run to between 10 and 20 sessions. Optimise protocols can show meaningful change from as few as five. Because several sessions can often be given in a day, some people complete a course within a week or two, while others prefer to spread it over a longer stretch. Your clinical team will shape the right course for you.
How long is each session?
On the restore journey, sessions last around thirty minutes. On the optimise journey, they are shorter (around 15 minutes), delivering targeted stimulation in a compact window designed to sit easily within a demanding day.
Is rTMS safe?
rTMS is extremely safe and well tolerated. It is non-invasive, needs no anaesthesia, and asks for no recovery time. Side effects, where they occur, are mild and passing. The only clinically significant risk is seizure, occurring in fewer than 0.0016% of treatments, and it has never occurred at Naya Health.
Will I have to stop my medication?
No. rTMS can be delivered safely alongside ongoing medication, and many patients continue their usual treatment throughout. Any decision to adjust it is always made with your prescribing doctor.
How do I know if rTMS is right for me?
The best place to begin is a complimentary discovery call. It is a short, no-obligation conversation with one of our clinicians about what you are living with, what you are hoping for, and whether rTMS is likely to help. If it is not the right fit, we will tell you.
Do I need a referral?
No referral is needed. You can book a discovery call directly, and if you choose to go ahead, we will guide you through every step from there.
How do I book an rTMS treatment consultation in London?
Start with a free 15-minute discovery call via the Naya website, no referral needed, and no formal diagnosis required. If rTMS seems right for you, you'll be invited to a full NayaScore™ assessment before treatment begins. The clinical team will review your case individually and guide you from there.
What questions should I ask a clinic about rTMS treatment?
The right questions are: How is treatment personalised? How are outcomes measured? What's the evidence base? What happens if it doesn't work? At Naya, we welcome all of these, and a free 15-minute discovery call is exactly the right place to ask them.
